The Attachment of the Female Russian Bear to her Young

Claims that the female bear's 'maternal tenderness' is shown by news that Emperor Nicholas I of Russia has recalled his sons to attend his sickly wife. Believes this story shows that 'Even Nicholas himself appears to have some affection for his own cubs'.
