    The character Mr Selborne fails in his attempt to give medical treatment to the inhabitants of an Arab village. Locals resist his attempts to send for drugs from the nearest town, and want to leave the condition of the sickly to Allah. Selborne makes some infusions from herbs. Notes that surgery is rarely practised among the Moors and anatomy is forbidden by their religion. Selborne tries unsuccessfully to save the life of a young child with his potion.
