    Describes the life of the recently deceased admiral George Back, a seaman who accompanied John Franklin and his surgeon John Richardson on their exploration of the northern coast of America. Describes this gruelling expedition in detail and then describes Back's Arctic voyage. The illustration shows Back's ship in the Frozen Strait in the Arctic.
