Describes the life of William Scoresby. Begins with an account of Scoresby's father, also William Scoresby, who after becoming a sailor, spent his leisure hours reading and who was 'not ashamed to say that he feared and honoured God'. Proceeds to a description of Scoresby's father's naval adventures and then to Scoresby himself. Notes that one of Scoresby's earliest lessons was the veneration of the sabbath, and describes the brutal treatment delivered to boys at the school he attended.
