    The account details the characteristics of insane patients. It is observed that, according to Philippe Pinel, the register of the Hospice de Bicetre, Paris, does not contain 'the name of a single person accustomed to the habitual exercise of his intellectual faculties; not one naturalist, or natural philosopher of ability; no chemist, no geometrician'.
