Prizes at the Agricultural Show
Agriculture, Machinery, Cultural Geography, Politics
Lists prizes given to statesmen of the day for agricultural machines that symbolise their political activities. For example, Robert Peel is honoured for a 'new corn-crushing' machine (an allusion to his opposition to the Corn Law), and the radical Irish politician Daniel O'Connell 'for the best set of tools, for draining a poor soil'.
