"A Sewing Machine"

[Douglas W Jerrold] *

Genre:

Letter, Spoof

Subjects:

Invention, Technology, Domestic Economy, Class, Politics

Notes that this invention has recently been exhibited at the Royal Institution. Thinks there is nothing new in the fact that the machine works by 'turning a screw', since 'English shirtmakers' have 'been made to work for farthings' by 'turning a screw'.
