    Reports the appearance of a 'long floating object' over the stern of the steamer on which he was travelling. Believes the object to be the 'Sea Serpent' despite knowing of the Illustrated Times's opinion that it is a boat (as depicted in the illustration) or a 'steersman's' view that it is a whale.
