    Laments the fact that assistant surgeons in the Royal Navy are forced to mix with midshipmen, when they are 'perfectly qualified to join at least the Ward-room mess'. Punch intends to continue urging the Admiralty to place assistant surgeons 'in a class better suited to their intellectual and social position'.
