Genre:

Notes, Spoof

Subjects:

Hospitals, Exhibitions, Disease, Public Health

Presents a pessimistic report concerning the Jardin d'Hiver in Paris, putatively prepared for John Campbell (1st Baron Campbell) by his commissioner 'Henry Stretcher M.D.', in response to Joseph Paxton's proposal to turn the Crystal Palace into a winter garden. The observations underline the claim that the winter garden would foster illness and raise the mortality rate.
