The First Railway in Australia

Anon

Genre:

News-Commentary, Drollery

Subjects:

Railways, Technology, Progress

Discusses a report in the Sydney Herald of the 'first Railway in Australia', which suffered a troublesome birth when the locomotive only started moving after considerable pushing from porters, policemen, and others. Hopes that 'the Australians will get up their steam a little better than they did on the inauguration of their first Railway', but notes that a recent report would suggest otherwise.
