    Reports on Charles Wood's announcement that the government has decided against sending a new expedition in search of John Franklin, 'believing that it would be useless'. Thinks it is 'impossible to believe' that Franklin will be found, but 'almost as impossible to disbelieve' that the location where he and his 'brave companions' perished would not be found'. (91)
