    Describes a meeting of Arctic whales which gathered to consider 'the probability of their speedy extinction' by the use of whalebone in the manufacture of crinoline dresses and spermaceti in the preparation of ointment. The whales are particularly hostile towards Empress Eugénie of France for promoting crinoline.
