Describes the use of chain mail and the changing size and shape of shields during the reigns of King Richard I and King John. Goes on to explain the apparently gargantuan size of the spears, swords, and others weapons used in this period (illustrated with a depiction of an aristocratic warrior carrying a huge sword). Concludes with a description of the 'arbaleste', a 'kind of crossbow made for discharging from the breast'.
