Railway Raillery

Anon

Genre:

News-Commentary

Subjects:

Railways, Exhibitions, Commerce

Notes how other periodicals have condemned railway companies north of the Thames for 'resolving not to run excursion-trains in May' during the International Exhibition, accusing them of being tyrants over 'the British people'. Ironically represents such attacks preposterous, suggesting that the decision must be a premature April fools' joke. Argues that railway companies will 'so largely benefit by the Exhibition' that they 'will do their utmost to make it a success' and not lose out on this source of profit.
