The intial letter is part of an illustration showing two women, 'one an emaciated and craggy reflection of the other', who are divided by a large plant apparently in the plane of a mirror. The text calls for the removal of the 'hideous tents, that selfishly block the view of the Horticultural Gardens from the windows of the Exhibition refreshment rooms'. Wishes the fellows of the Royal Horticultural Society would organize the tents in order to convey the 'graceful and sweet' lessons taught by flowers, and criticizes the exhibition directors for erecting the tents whilst drunk.
