    Reports from the Napoléonien that the Agricultural Society of Avignon has prompted 'large scale' 'experiments for raising cotton in the madder lands', areas which have become unprofitable owing to the fall in consumption of 'articles used in dyeing' caused by the American Civil War. Supposes that these 'madder lands' are in the Union states, since the 'Yankees' appear to be on the brink of defeat by the south.
