Reports on the protest by Edward G G S Stanley (14th Earl of Derby) against the number of new railway schemes which threaten to cut London 'into pieces', and to cause disruptions to thoroughfares, the demolition of buildings, and the likely construction of 'hideous viaducts and frightful termini'. Adds that Mr Punch hopes Derby will 'smash the Bill' to introduce the new railway schemes.
