The illustration shows a view along Ludgate Hill, but with the traditional view of St Paul's Cathedral now obscured by an ugly railway bridge built between buildings on both sides of the street. The text urges people to take their last glimpse of Christopher Wren's 'remarkable edifice' which 'will become invisible, owing to the great improvements which the march of intellect and the progress of commerce' have forced upon London.
