    Introduces a 'notice' describing the ways in which 'one of our Universities [University of Oxford] is trying to combine instruction with amusement'. These include the Savilian Professor of Geometry (Henry J S Smith) attending 'his own lecture whenever he likes' and the Professor of Geology (John Phillips) 'making a good betting-book on the Extinct Races of Animals'.
