Inspired by the plot of Sheridan 1781, this shows Tilburnia, daughter of the governor of Tilbury fort, pointing over some battlements to the sea, and looking apprehensively at the First Lord of the Admiralty. Tilburnia claims that she can see the 'fleets approach', but the first sea-lord warns her that 'The British fleet thou canst not see—Because it is Not yet in sight!'. Similar to , PU1/51/7/7, this criticizes the perpetual delays to the completion of a new British fleet. |
