    Following remarks in The Times about William E Gladstone and John Bright having 'allowed themselves to be tied up', suggests that there are similarities between the liberal statesmen and the mediums William H H Davenport and Ira E Davenport (celebrated for producing spiritualistic phenomena while being tied up within a wooden box).
