Each surname is followed by a short description of the woman's leading characteristic. The list includes Emily Davies 'support, Educational Rights', Elizabeth Garrett 'of Medical Fame', Sophia L Jex-Blake 'follows in Miss G[arrett]'s Line', Harriet Martineau 'of Experience ripe', and Florence Nightingale 'whom to praise all men write'.
