    Mr Punch's response to John Tyndall's claim (published in Tyndall 1871a) that all philosophy, poetry, and science are 'potential in the fires of the sun'. Punch offers a prize of one million pounds for the best essay on the question of whether new laid eggs contain 'any degree' of 'Consciousness or Volition'. However, warns that the best answer is not necessarily going to satisfy Mr Punch.
