Reports on the aid given to victims of the 'awful catastrophe at Sheffield' (which was flooded when the Dale Dyke Dam in Low Bradfield collapsed), including substantial monetary donations from the town's armour-plating manufacturer John Brown. Notes that Robert Rawlinson, 'an engineer connected with the Home Office', is to 'discharge his duty' in this grave matter.
